Working on campus is a great way to meet other Quinnipiac students, learn about U.S. culture, practice your English, and earn some money. Examples of on-campus employment may include working in the library, the dining halls, or as a graduate assistant for an academic department.

F-1 and J-1 students are eligible to work on-campus while enrolled at Quinnipiac University under the following conditions:

  • The student must be in valid F-1 or J-1 status.
  • Employment meets one of the following conditions:

    • The student is employed by an on-campus contractor providing direct student services, such as Chartwells dining services or Follett (bookstore).
    • The student is employed at an off-campus location affiliated with the university and is paid by Quinnipiac University.
  • All on-campus employment must be less than 20 hours per week while school is in session.
  • Quinnipiac's policy is that undergraduate students must work less than 15 hours per week while school is in session.
  • The student may work full-time during official school breaks, including summer and winter breaks.
  • On-campus employment may only occur between the program start date and the end date on a Form I-20 or DS-2019.
  • F-1 and J-1 students are only eligible for Non-Federal Work-Study and Graduate Assistant positions. Students can search for available on-campus positions at Quinnipiac on the Student Employment page on MyQ.
  • If you will work on campus, you are required to apply for a Social Security Number (SSN)
  • If you will work on campus, you will be required to file a U.S. tax return
  • On-campus employment positions are limited and not guaranteed.

Note for J-1 Students: J-1 students sponsored by Quinnipiac must complete the On-Campus Employment Authorization form in the ISS Portal to obtain written approval from the Office of International Students & Scholars in advance.

Hiring an International Student

If the F-1 or J-1 international student hired for an on-campus position does not have a social security number (SSN), supervisors must complete an offer letter for the student to be used for their application.

The Office of International Students & Scholars can support students in their SSN application process

Quinnipiac supervisors can complete the On-Campus Employment Offer Letter (PDF) and provide it directly to the student.
