Immigration Check-In

International Student Services | New Student Information

As a new F-1 or J-1 student or a returning F-1 student coming back from a leave of absence or starting a new degree level, you will have an "Initial" status Form I-20 and SEVIS record. You must complete your Immigration Check-in with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) after you arrive in the U.S. and enroll full-time in classes so we can register your SEVIS record and change it to "Active" status.

The Immigration Check-In process with OISS requires you to upload photos or scans of the following documents for you, and any dependents (spouse or children) listed on your F-1 or J-1 immigration record, to your International Student & Scholar (ISS) Portal account. Completing your Immigration Check-In serves to confirm that you have arrived in the U.S. and that you understand the rules and regulations you must follow to stay in status as an F-1 or J-1 student.

Before logging into your ISS Portal account, please gather the following documents/information:

  • Passport Biographical Page(s)
  • F-1 Visa Stamp (or Change of Status Approval Notice if applicable)
    • Citizens of Canada and Bermuda do not have the F-1 visa stamp in their passport.
  • Most Recent I-94 Arrival Record (not Travel History).
  • Dependent Documentation (if applicable)
